Eibar 2023: Embracing the Editor: Learning from this crucial member of the Plone community
My talk in 2023 focused on one of the most overlooked (and most important) members of any web project: the Editor.
Drawing from 15+ years of working with Plone-powered websites, I explored how Editors evolve over time — from hesitant beginners to confident contributors and internal champions. We looked at four types of Editors Juizi works with: Emerging, Excited, Expert, and Endorsing — and what each stage means for how a website is run and supported.
I shared real stories from Juizi's clients, including JET Education Services, ACQF, and the Dullah Omar Institute, showing how editor empowerment leads to better websites, stronger ownership, and long-term success.
The takeaway: Editors are not just users — they’re key members of the Plone community.
If we want to build better sites and a stronger platform, we need to keep supporting the people actually managing the content.
“What are we doing to nurture and value the Plone Editors? And do they even know there’s a Plone community?”
